Double Fireball
John Gruber, of Daring Fireball and other fames, shared some additional thoughts on the state of leaks from a particular leaker.
I've already beaten the dead horse about Apple Vision Pro not being dead and the state of rumors that are basically tabloid gossip. But even as I share my thoughts, Gruber does what he does best and says my thoughts more clearly and hammers the point home much better.
Trying to argue that the differences between LCD and OLED displays have anything to do with MacOS 26 Tahoe’s UI problems is like arguing that the reason your undercooked poorly prepared food tastes like shit is that it was designed to be served on higher-quality dinnerware. A nicer display is just a nicer display. A bad UI is a bad UI. Shitty undercooked poorly prepared food is shitty undercooked poorly prepared food.
I was also confused by the reporting here. Liquid Glass on the Mac has more flaws than on other systems. I can acknowledge that. But it would never have occurred to me to blame display technologies because it doesn't make sense.
Apple is going to refine Liquid Glass across its systems with the OS 27 cycle, but I expect macOS to get more attention than the rest.
Gruber's points about the Vision Products Group are on point too. Perhaps if you've been consistently wrong about that particular sector of Apple, it's time to stop listening to that source.
If I had to take a guess, the reporting has been colored by the author's own dislike of the product. It doesn't work for them, so it shouldn't exist.
It happens to the best of us.
P.S. Short post today. As I've said, Mondays aren't always going to yield a post from me, and today's post was absorbed by AppleInsider, so keep an eye out for my article on iMessage and RCS.
