Introducing a series on owning an Apple-first smart home
Owning an Apple-first smart home in 2026 will be interesting to explore

I don't have a lot of time to get into bigger stories like Apple's spatial computing future or continued mismanagement of the App Store. Don't worry though, I'll have plenty to say on those topics soon.

Today, my first post in a series I'm calling "Owning an Apple Home" has been published. It covers, in broad strokes, my move from a home I lived in for nearly six years into a house I just purchased. Disassembling and reassembling my smart home was a big task, but that's why I'm writing about it.

Of course, if you've been keeping track, I hurt my knee while moving. It was one of those injuries that took a few days to manifest, so I did manage to get a few things done. Thankfully, those few things were enough to cover this first piece.

We've been living here nearly a month, but my inability to move freely has hampered the progress on implementing my smart home. In normal circumstances, I'd do it all as fast as possible.

In a way, I'm thankful I was forced to take a step back and think things through. For one, much of this home has ceiling fans with E12 bulbs. They're less common and not many manufacturers make them, let alone good-looking ones.

The good thing is, this series isn't on a time limit. As time allows or as reviews and tips are completed, I'll keep the series moving along in the coming months. Longer feature pieces will arrive periodically as topics are explored.

I've got an ongoing list of ideas and products I want to try out for the series. If there's something you'd like to see covered in detail for this series that you haven't seen elsewhere, or hasn't been covered with recent technology, let me know. I'm open to ideas and excited to share my smart home journey.

I've been using smart home products for over a decade, but now I get to implement more permanent solutions. It's going to be a lot of fun seeing exactly what works best, and what is better left being done the old-fashioned way.

While the series is being published on AppleInsider, I'll expand where I can here in the blog. Not everything I want to write about pertaining to my home will be suitable for the tech website.
