Still waiting on iPhone Fold production rumors

There's still no sign of an iPhone Fold approaching mass production.

Still waiting on iPhone Fold production rumors
iPhone Air could be a preview of iPhone Fold, if it ever launches

We're quickly approaching the end of February, and that means it's time for Apple's early production of the fall iPhones to begin. The rumor for the iPhone 18 Pro models arrived Monday morning, but it is notably missing something.

Instant Digital on Weibo, from translation:

The 18 series is already in production testing. The production line of the iPhone 18 Pro has also started. According to the current information, the material has not changed much, and the current scheme specifications are still used as a whole.

These leakers are fairly good about specificity. If this rumor involved iPhone Fold, it would have been said.

It isn't about release timing either, as the rumor points out that the iPhone 18, due in spring 2027 if the schedule does indeed shift, has entered production testing.

We've yet to hear a single rumor about iPhone Fold production ramps or the supply chain. For comparison, the iPhone Air chassis leaked in January 2025. CAD drawings leaked on February 24 and again on February 28.

Dummy models also began appearing regularly by early March.

If the iPhone Fold is really launching, the supply chain won't be able to hide it for long. Meanwhile, I'm going to remain skeptical about the product's existence outside of internal testing.

It's a fad, low-margin product with a niche audience. I can't see Apple bothering when other products are in the pipeline that solve the problem of more display in a smaller form factor. Apple Vision Pro offers a near-infinite display thanks to the mixed reality applications.

Foldables are old news.
